What to do in “Bat Shlomo”, Israel

Bat Shlomo is a moshav in the Menashe Heights on the southern edge of Mount Carmel, near the Zikhron Ya’acov and Binyamina. The colony was founded in 1889 with the funding of Baron Rothschild and is named for the mother of Baron Rothschild, Betty de Rothschild, and her father, Solomon (Shlomo) Meir Rothschild.

The one main street with about 25 old stone houses, most of which have preserved their original appearance is the heart of the old Bat Shlomo colony. The only first aliyah settlement that has been preserved almost as it was since its establishment.

It has remained a beautiful place for a magical walk among the old houses, where every stone tells the story of the First Aliyah, the birth of the colony and its construction.

Events & Attractions:

Today the Moshava is a tourist gem, and this unique old street is crowded with travelers. Among the cafes, galleries, guest houses, and the famous creamery, you can catch a piece of history, gawk at the impressive buildings built during the Baron, including the synagogue, the clerks’ house, the school, the authentic courtyards, some of which have agricultural tools preserved scattered around.

But the community would not be the same if not for the amazing scenery provided by nature, mainly from Mount Horshen, located just south of the colony. It is a beautiful green reserve of thick Mediterranean grove offering innumerable possibilities for hiking, cycling and field trips and enjoying nature at its best.

Surrounding the colony are orchards in the valleys, hills covered with natural groves, streams and grazing areas. South of the Wadi Milek road are the remains of a JNF forest.

Transportation:

Transportation in the colony is based on private vehicles, inter-city buses, and taxis.
