What to do in “Beit Jann”, Israel
Beit Jann is a Druze settlement in the mountains of the Upper Galilee, located about 5 kilometers southwest of Mount Meron. The village is the highest in the State of Israel within the 1967 borders. The average height is about 930 meters above sea level, and in the higher neighborhoods, the height reaches 1040 meters above sea level. In 1964 the settlement was declared a local council in the Northern District of Israel.
The village is situated in the heart of the Meron Nature Reserve, and in the winter the village is covered with white snow.
The name of the village is apparently derived from the many gardens planted there. Another version tells of an ancient belief that demons roam the village (Jin).
Events & Attractions:
In this area, there are a variety of attractions and special sites to visit, including Mount HaAri (Jebel Haidar) near the village. On the mountain is the tomb of Baha a-Din, one of the five prophets of the Druze religion. Baha a-Din was the oracle of the prophets, and upon his departure, the Druze religion was closed to new believers.
Beit Jann is a great base for excursions; the village is near the summit path on Mount Meron, Nahal Kziv, and other fascinating nature sites.
Next to Beit Jann, the reddish peony blooms in April. This plant is used as an ornamental plant in the Far East (Japan, China), Europe and North America. It is the only place in Israel where the rare plant blooms.
Every year, the festivals “Kan Zaman” and “The Lost Market” are held in the village as part of the village events.

Transportation in the Beit Jann area is based on inter-city buses, taxis, and private cars.
