Peki’in is a local council in the Northern District of Israel. It was declared a local council in 1958. Peki’in is located in the Upper Galilee, west of Beit Jann and southeast of Ma’alot-Tarshiha.

The story of Peki’in is a story of coexistence and harmony. A story of Arabs, Christians, Druze, and one Jewish family, which was the product of a long-standing lineage.

The heart of the village is built of narrow, beautiful stone alleyways that lead to a spring that once was a center for life. In the center of the village stands a synagogue built in 1873 with two stones embedded in the tradition of the First Temple. You can visit the synagogue by appointment.

In the south of the settlement lies the Cave of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, where according to Jewish tradition, Bar Yohai hid with his son Elazar from the Romans. The second largest Greek Orthodox church in Israel also operates in Peki’in. The church was built in 1894 on the remains of an older church.

In Peki’in there are a variety of guest rooms, special restaurants, colorful shops, a factory for making soaps from olive oil, and especially warm people who will be happy to share stories of their lives. Around the village, there are beautiful nature reserves, including Mount Meron and the Nahal Meron, and the Matlul Tzurim reserve, as well as tourist sites including Lake Monfort, the Open Museum in Tefen and the Rock Park in Kisra-Sumei.

In Peki’in you can find a variety of events and festivals such as the “Taste Festival” – a culinary event that focuses on the flavors and aromas of authentic cuisine, alongside workshops and preparation of dishes. The festival takes place every year around Shavuot.
