Tiberias lies on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee and is the only city located on the shores of the lake. Visitors to Tiberias will discover a vibrant tourist city that offers plenty of attractions and entertainment for all ages.

The city was founded in 20 CE by Herod Antipas and was named after the Roman Emperor Tiberias. According to the New Testament, after the establishment of the city Jesus operated in the north of the Sea of Galilee, and therefore in Christianity, the area is considered holy.

In Jewish history, Tiberias is considered one of the four holy cities, together with Jerusalem, Hebron, and Tzfat, where most of the Jewish population of Israel was concentrated from the end of the Middle Ages to the 19th century.

In Tiberias you can find a variety of attractions such as a water park, the marina, where you can go on a cruise on one of the ships anchored near the boardwalk, art galleries, a lively pedestrian mall, the famous fish market, the hot springs, a variety of beaches and extreme water sports.

In Tiberias, the Hotel Casa Dona Gracia is located. This is a unique place for entertainment in a 16th-century establishment that tells the story of Dona Gracia whose legendary wealth saved many of the Spanish exiles.

On Mount Bereniki overlooking Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee, there are remains of an impressive Byzantine monastery and the remains of the Tiberias wall. South of Tiberias is a Jordanian site that allows Christian believers to be baptized in the waters of the Jordan River (Jesus was baptized in Jordan in the Jericho area, and when access was not possible, the traditional baptism point was moved to a Jordanian site).
