What to do in “Be’er Sheva”, Israel

Be’er Sheva is one of the four major cities in Israel and is considered the capital of the Negev region. The city, whose roots are mentioned in Biblical times, has undergone a significant change in the past decade and today it is a colorful and vibrant city that offers all its visitors an interesting connection between the Biblical history to the Turkish rule, and into the city’s urbanization and innovation. The city features a new high-tech park, a university, an enchanting Old City that is re-awakening, as many cultural events flood the city.

Events & Attractions:
Be’er Sheva has a lot to offer. A central focal point for a visit is the Old City, which embodies a new and refreshing cultural and entertainment center. In the evening, the Old City and Smilansky Street become fun and vibrant center with dozens of bars, cafes, the Fringe Theater, a youth complex, and more.

During the day you can tour the Old City and sites such as Abraham’s Well International Visitor Center, the Turkish Train museum (Katar), Allenby Park, the Governor’s Office, the British Police and other impressive buildings from the Turkish period. For art lovers, you can find galleries and art shops in the Old City. Throughout the year there are many festivals and cultural events in the Old City such as the wine festival in the Turkish train complex, the Smilansky Festival, the Fringe, the Southern Lights (Zohar) festival with a variety of spectacular light performances, a short film festival, and more.

The city also includes the Carasso Science Park, Lunada – the Children’s Museum, and the Gateway to the Negev Visitor Center, the Be’er Sheva River Park, the Turkish Bridge, the Pipe Bridge and the ancient Beit Eshel compound. While here, one can also visit the Tel Be’er Sheva National Park, the colorful Bedouin market, and the impressive Negev Brigade monument that overlooks the city.

Transportation in Be’er Sheva is based on municipal buses, taxis, and private cars.
