Hebron is a city in the center of Mount Hebron in the Judean Hills, about 35 km south of Jerusalem. The city is situated at an altitude of 930 meters above sea level, and is one of the oldest cities in the Middle East and one of the oldest cities in the world that has been inhabited almost continuously since ancient times.

According to Jewish tradition, the first fathers and mothers of the nation were buried in the Cave of the Patriarchs in the city, and therefore it is known as the City of the Patriarchs.

In Arabic, the city is called al-Khalil, according to the name of Abraham in the Muslim tradition – Khalil Allah.
