Information and Review of the The Luzit Caves
The “Luzit Caves” or the “Bell Caves” are centuries-old, dating back to the Hellenistic period. They were quarried by humans and were discovered in the coastal plain.
The caves were hewn in a soft chalk bedrock and resemble bells, the ceiling is a thick layer called “Nari,” with a thickness of up to three meters.
The residents of the area opened a relatively small hole in the Nari layer until they reached the chalk layer. The quarrying work was carried out extensively in the soft bedrock. The material that was removed from the Nari layer served the quarries for construction work there.
