The centerpiece of this national park is its magnificently preserved Crusader fortress.
Built in the twelfth century, the fortress stands on a plateau high over the Jordan Valley, hence its Hebrew name, Star of the Jordan.
Its medieval name, Belvoir, means beautiful view that has not changed in a thousand years.
A walking tour through the fortress will reveal halls, cisterns, and the secret of its strength. The adjacent sculpture garden displays works by the famous Israeli artist Yigal Tomarkin.
