What to do in “Kinneret (Moshava)”, Israel

Moshavat Kinneret, is a Jewish village located on the southwestern coast of the Sea of Galilee, in the Kinneret Valley about 185 meters below sea level, in the north of Israel. The village is located about 6 km south of Tiberias, named after the ancient Kinneret.

Moshavat Kinneret was established in 1908 and was the first settlement established in the Land of Israel, and today it is one of the ten established like-communities in Israel.

Events & Attractions:

The first public building that was built in the settlement was Beit Hefetz, which served as a clinic and a pharmacy, and is now the museum with exhibitions of the Moshava and agricultural tools. The house of the Treidel family (from 1912) stood outside the wall of the settlement, next to the “barn” that served as the family farm and today it has a display of tools from the beginning of the Jewish settlement in the area.

Alongside the Moshava, the Kinneret Farm, the first farm set up by the Office of the World Zionist Organization, was also established, with the aim of training agricultural workers, both men, and women. The farm, which operated until 1949, played an important role in the history of the Land of Israel. From here the founders of the first Kibbutz, Kibbutz Degania and the first Moshav, Moshav Nahalal came from, and in 1920 the Haganah, the protective organization of the Jewish community in Palestine during the British Mandate, was established.
At the entrance to the Moshava is the complex of buildings of the farm that received the status of a national heritage site, and it includes a reconstruction of the courtyard and an exhibition about Rachel Bluwstein Sela, the Hebrew-language poet.

In Moshava Kinneret there are some guesthouses. Recently a visitor center was also established.

In the area, there are a variety of events and festivals during the year, such as the “Lake Festival” – an international choir festival on the Sea of Galilee and the “Taste of the Sea of Galilee” festival.
