Arad is a city in the southern district of Israel. It lies on the edge of the Judean Desert, on a ridge, about 600 meters above sea level. Its jurisdiction is 26,500 acres, and it is the third-largest city in the area of any city in Israel.

Near new Arad lies the ancient city of Tel Arad, where remains of a settlement from the Canaanite period were exposed from 5,000 years ago and from the Israelite period 3,000 years ago.

The city of Arad of the Early Bronze Age extended over 25 acres and was surrounded by a wall about 1,200 meters long. Is one of the oldest cities in the Land of Israel with planned streets, public buildings, and a wall.

Events & Attractions:

The Hebrew Song Festival has been held every year since 1982, attracts thousands of visitors every summer. In the Artists’ Quarter, there are also various art projects throughout the year, including a permanent exhibition in the Ruth Dorit Yaakobi hangar, accompanied by the book and the film the “Woman of the Thousand Voices,” which is viewed therein. There is also a variety of art galleries, the Doll Gallery, by artists Miri Leibowitz and Edward Shruster, the Glass Museum of the artist Gideon Friedman, the antique shop of Moshe Vaknin, the Desert Winery, and more.

On Thursday evenings during the summer, the Artists Quarter holds a “Thursday in the Quarter” fair, where all the galleries are open to the general public, and there are many different performances.

In Arad, a variety of festivals and events take place each year, such as the Arad Festival and the “Starry Nights” festival.
