This church, on top of the Mount of Olives, is built over a cave in which tradition says Jesus taught the disciples the prayer that begins, “Our Father who art in heaven” .
The first church on the site was built in the fourth century by Constantine’s mother, Queen Helena. The walls of the current Carmelite cloister and church, built by the French in the 19th century, are covered in versions of the prayer in just about every major known language.
