The village of Dekel (palm tree in Hebrew) was established in the Negev by former residents of the Yamit region in North Sinai, who were evacuated from their homes in 1982, following the Israel-Egypt peace treaty. The visitor center “Hagadat Hevel Yamit” (The Yamit Region Haggadah in Hebrew), tells the story of those dreaming to make the desert bloom twice, life in the Yamit region, and the decision to rebuild their lives from scratch in the western Negev. The guided visit provides personal stories and extensive historical documentation, including photographs, exhibits and a film.
