The reserve protects rich waterscapes nourished by numerous springs and is home to varied plants and animals, as well as the Canaanite city of Tel Afeq. The largest wetland on Israel's Mediterranean coast, it appears on the prestigious Ramsar Convention international wetlands list. Begin your visit at the Crusader flour mill, with its display of agricultural tools, audio-visual presentation and panoramic rooftop view. Continue via a wooden bridge (wheelchair accessible) right over the water and you may even catch a glimpse of the water buffalos brought in as natural grass-cutters.
